Also, while you’re at it, what kind of pipe do you think would be best to accomodate a good size baking potato?
All right, thanks guys. I’m thinking about getting metal pipe just to make sure it doesn’t blow up on me, it is stronger, right? I want to be as safe as possible, probs gonna wear a face shield and all just to make sure.

hi i have aproblem with my VW Golf just yesterday i inflated my flat tire with an air compressor using my cigarette lighter…. then when i was ready to go the car would not start, when i turned the key in the warnings lights on the dashboard lit up etc and one in particular was flashings the ‘car’ light. All i could hear was clicking as i turned the key in no noise from the engine at all and the digital milage display was not coming on.. (i have fuel, so its not that) any sugestions would be great…. : )
Thanks
yes the car was not on when i used the compressor. But i did not switch the car or drive it for about 2 weeks before that.

But i got my neighbour to jump start my car and its running now so its fine.
But i only took it round the block not a to get the battery used to working again so was that enough time to let the engine on or should i go and take it for a spin right now? lol

My mother and brother live in a 40-year-old, 2,000-square-foot house in Florida. About six year ago, they were sold a ,000 central air conditioner on the basis that it would never break down.

Since then, they have had lots of troubles with it, especially in the last two or three years. Last year they had the air conditioning guy out three times, the last time costing ,700, when he installed an air handler and made them get a warranty for it.

Shortly after that viisit, my brother became alarmed when he noticed that the lights seemed to dim whenever the heat came on. (I’m not sure if the unit they bought is heat/air, but their a/c guy would handle both.) My brother also felt the heat malfunctioned, and resorted to a space heater during the winter to keep my mother’s room warm.

Now the a/c has gone out and they are experiencing high temperatures for April, in the high 80′s. They would have called in the a/c guy months ago, but the ,700 they spent on him was their last real money and they are afraid that the way the warranty works is that you pay up front, and then get reimbursed.

What is complicating everything is that their a/c guy is the son of my mother’s best friend. You would have thought that he would have given them a break all along, but, instead, my fear — and I hate to be negative, or cast aspersions, but I just wonder — is that he has charged them premium prices all along because he knows they won’t go anywhere else so my mother won’t offend his mother.

Here are my questions:

Was the original price for their air conditioner normal?

Was the cost for the air handler normal?

Is it normal to have a high-end a/c unit break down that often?

How do those warranties work: Can they get the a/c guy out there on the warranty and not have to pay, or will they have to get reimbursed?

Any suggestions for how to get out from under this situation without offending my mother’s friend? ("Oh, hi, we switched to ice packs!!!")

What do you think was going on when, every time the heat came on last winter, the lights dimmed? I was not sure whether the occurence was just when the heat first came on, or intermittently or sporadically, so I asked my brother. He sent this explanation:

"It was continuously, whenever the compressor was on or was operating, as I recall.

But I am not sure of those details. I just remember that all the while that I was hearing
the compressor operating outside the window with its telltale hum/buzz sound, it would
keep making a funny sound every few seconds, and for just that few seconds of
duration, the lights would dim. Then this would repeat, over and over and over.

The thing is, it seemed odd to me that the compressor was even on at all, because if
my memory served me right, it did not seem as if the compressor should have needed
to be on at all while the heat pump was operating, only when the A/C was."

Thanking in advance for any help you can give.

central air unit (all in one exterior mount) unknown age. turn air unit on. blows warm air for about 3 minutes then trips breaker. i am obviously not trying to repair on my own but am trying to get the best answer on what is wrong so as not to get ripped off by tech. the compressor seems to be working – the larger tube is cold to the touch and the smaller one is very hot. have not measured the actual temps. the blower fan above the compressor works and the the blower to the duct work also comes on. none of the wires are warm to the touch and nothing anywhere in unit indicates short/smoking etc. do not know how to test compressor motor capacitor to see if that is bad but visually it is intact with no bulging cracks or weeping. this happened once before, and the next day when the land lord came to the house with out reason it started to work again. that was about a month ago. this time even after sitting for a day it still does it. waiting on repair guy (thursday) research on the web found a few things like needing some type of hard start capacitor and "tight" hard starting compressor.
added info after first answer, tested breakers(had some new spares laying around and installed them) the fan above the compressor comes on and turns full time. compressor itself did not feel hot to touch.
compressor delays start after fan by about 20 seconds. temp on small tube hits 117 degrees within 30 seconds. larger tube hits 55 degrees in same time. (far.)
